About Garth Barns

The perfect combination of beautiful location, great facilities and accessibility, set amidst rolling hills of rural Wales. Garth Barns sits nestled in unspoiled and natural beauty in the countryside that surrounds the historic and pretty town of Llanidloes. A world away from it all, deep in the charm of rural Wales and yet easily accessed from London, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham.

The two large barn conversions that house the Yoga Shala and all of the accommodation, are heated from renewable biomass and the drinking water is from the farm’s own pure spring water source. The barns surround the old farmyard, now a lovely space with gardens, a stream and an outdoor dining area for warmer days. There is also a gym and Finnish sauna. For wild swimmers there is a swimming pond. The venue is set within 200 acres of farmland with plenty of walks in the hills and valleys right on the doorstep.

The daily programme

The yoga classes will take place in the large and airy yoga room with underfloor heating. Each day will begin with a two hour morning yoga class. A strong and dynamic flowing asana practice gently opening the body and attuning the mind to the breath.

Morning class will be followed by breakfast. There will be free time throughout the day for walks, massages or simply relaxing with a good book. After lunch there will be free time until the afternoon class which will be more gentle and restorative and often include pranayama, meditation or yoga nidra. This will be followed by dinner.

Things to do

Garth Barns offers comfortable accommodation in which to relax and enjoy a good book, take to the hills and fields on long (or short) stunning nature walks. Amble about the local town and have a cup of tea or peruse the shops. Take a sauna or dip in the natural swimming pond. There will be delicious vegetarian food and plenty of time just to hang out and chat, meet new people, read, relax and enjoy being in nature and taking a break. A variety of massage treatments will also be available at additional cost.

Accommodation

The comfortable accommodation is finished to a high standard with single, twin and triple rooms available. There is also a 4-bed mini-dorm. All rooms are en-suite.

Client Reviews

My experience of the Bank Holiday Retreat at Garth Barns was brilliant from start to finish. The accommodation is superb and the setting idyllic. Ash, Jane and Roan were really flexible with the schedule which helped all take advantage of the glorious weather meaning we could take full advantage of the surrounding countryside. Food was delicious. All freshly prepared and home cooked and the availability of a glass of wine or two was quite welcome.

We all relaxed and had a great time. Ash made sure that the yoga was fun and that we did not take ourselves too seriously we particularly enjoyed a good laugh in the workshops. Christine, the local storyteller was a welcome surprise and inspiration. We were lucky to have such a cohesive group and great hosts, not to mention the chef. I would certainly return again.
Lorraine
The Garth Barns weekend was wonderful. Rowen and Jane were warm and welcoming hosts - they couldn’t do enough for you. The food was superb - Sarah is a fabulous cook - and plentiful. Ash created a relaxed environment where everyone could do their own practice and have the yoga weekend they wanted. The introduction of journaling and giving us notebooks and pencils was a really nice touch. I’d highly recommend the massage. All in all excellent value in a wonderful peaceful setting with people who genuinely cared about what they were doing.
Frances
Ash is a really great teacher, she somehow manages to spend lots of time with every student, you really feel like you’ve received quality instruction for your investment.
