About Garth Barns

The perfect combination of beautiful location, great facilities and accessibility, set amidst rolling hills of rural Wales. Garth Barns sits nestled in unspoiled and natural beauty in the countryside that surrounds the historic and pretty town of Llanidloes. A world away from it all, deep in the charm of rural Wales and yet easily accessed from London, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham.

The two large barn conversions that house the Yoga Shala and all of the accommodation are heated from renewable biomass and the drinking water is from the farm’s own pure spring water source. The barns surround the old farmyard, now a lovely space with gardens, a stream and an outdoor dining area for warmer days. There is also a gym and Finnish sauna. For wild swimmers there is a swimming pond. The venue is set within 200 acres of farmland with plenty of walks in the hills and valleys right on the doorstep.

Numbers have been limited for this retreat to allow for single accommodation unless sharing with someone close and space for yoga practice and in all communal areas.

The daily programme

There will be two yoga classes each day with Ash. Mornings will begin with a quiet meditation and gentle pranayama followed by an energising yoga asana practice. In the evenings there will be a shorter relaxing restorative yoga class to ease you into your evening.

Each day after morning yoga and breakfast there will be the opportunity to explore, take a dip in the wild swimming pool, have a sauna, join the afternoon workshop or simply relax.

Arrival time on the Friday is from 4pm onwards. The first yoga session will be at 5.30pm. The weekend will finish at 10am on the Monday after breakfast.

Things to do

Garth Barns offers comfortable accommodation in which to relax and enjoy a good book, take to the hills and fields on long (or short) stunning nature walks. Amble about the local town, have a cup of tea or peruse the shops. Take a sauna or a dip in the natural swimming pond. There will be delicious vegetarian food and plenty of time just to hang out and chat, meet new people, read, relax and enjoy being in nature and taking a break. A variety of massage treatments will also be available at an additional cost.

Accommodation

The comfortable accommodation is finished to a high standard and all rooms are en-suite. We are limiting the group size to 12 for this retreat and offering all rooms for single occupancy unless you are a couple or friends and happy to share.

Client Reviews

My experience of the bank holiday retreat at Garth Barns was brilliant from start to finish. The accommodation is superb and the setting idyllic. Ash, Jane and Rowen were really flexible with the schedule which helped all take advantage of the glorious weather meaning we could take full advantage of the surrounding countryside. Food was delicious. All freshly prepared and home cooked and the availability of a glass of wine or two was quite welcome.

The Garth Barns weekend was wonderful. Jane and Rowen were warm and welcoming hosts - they couldn’t do enough for you. The food was superb - Sarah is a fabulous cook - and plentiful. Ash created a relaxed environment where everyone could do their own practice and have the yoga weekend they wanted. The introduction of journaling and giving us notebooks and pencils was a really nice touch. I’d highly recommend the massage. All in all excellent value in a wonderful peaceful setting with people who genuinely cared about what they were doing.

We had a lovely time at Garth Barns with Ash. As a 50-something who practices yoga less often than I’d like to, I find Ash’s all inclusive approach very reassuring. The effort we put in is entirely our own choice and there’s a wide and interesting variety to the poses she teaches. She is such a calm and inspiring teacher to spend time with. The food was delicious with plenty of it. Sarah works incredibly hard but also joins in conversation and therefore it feels like she’s part of the group. The same can be said for Rowan too. The barns themselves are comfortable and have very pleasant surroundings. The room we had was large and airy and the shower was excellent.

Ash is a really great teacher, she somehow manages to spend lots of time with every student, you really feel like you’ve received quality instruction for your investment.

Me and my mum had a wonderful time away at Garth Barns. Neither of us are true yogis, having both just done a course and a few classes, but Ash was brilliant, the food was amazing, the scenery and barns were wonderful, the swimming lake and sauna were perfect too. I can't say enough how much we both loved it. We will definitely be back!

I have just spent May bank holiday weekend at Garth Barns. This weekend ticked all the boxes for me, a supportive yoga programme by Ash Bond, running, swimming and humongous helpings of seriously healthy food menus devised by Sarah. Rowan sorted the hospitality side fantastically. Atmospheric Welsh story telling by Christine on Saturday night around a wood fire. And Kirsten a super-intuitive masseur. Then of course the accommodation - warm and cosy and outside huge copper beech trees, banks of bluebells and of course that POND. Fabulous!!
