About Castle Bijaipur
Standing high on a plateau of the great Vindhychal range is the 16th century Castle Bijaipur. Having been occupied by kings and queens for centuries, the present Maharaja (a great lover of yoga) has opened the doors of his exquisite castle to the public.
The hospitality is so wonderful you are made to feel like a Maharaj yourself from the moment you arrive.
With turrets and terraces and surrounded by villages, wildlife and breathtaking views of the valley, this really is a very special place.
You will spend 8 nights at the Castle and 2 nights mid retreat in luxury tents or rooms at Pangarh Lake resort.
There will be two yoga classes each day on the shaded roof terrace of the Castle or in a shaded spot beside the lotus lake.
Each morning will begin with meditation and a flowing asana class to gently open the body and attune the mind to the breath. The afternoon class will be more restorative and often include pranayama, meditation or yoga nidra.
There will be one yoga free day, no yoga on travel days and the classes will be suitable for all levels and experience.
Things to do
Castle Bijaipur offers an opportunity for adventure or complete relaxation - the choice is yours.
There are jeep safaris to experience nearby wildlife and bird-life, treks to surrounding villages, temples and wonderful Marwari horses. You can explore the countryside on day trips to the Chittorgarh Fort and the stunning city of Udaipur and there are opportunities for cookery lessons and bicycle rides.
There is no shortage of things to do in and around the Castle; even just a stroll into the surrounding village is a feast for the mind, body and soul.
For those who want to take things at a slower pace, days can be spent by the pool or in the beautiful gardens or taking a massage with a local therapist.
Accommodation & food
The Castle rooms are comfortable, clean and charming, offering both the luxury of modern comforts and the elegance of the past. Suites are also available on request if you would like more space and luxury.
At the lake you will camp in style in luxury tents or rooms with proper beds and bathroom facilities, amidst the stillness and beauty of the Rajasthan countryside.
Delicious traditional Indian meals are served with many ingredients sourced from the Castle gardens and the local village.
A little note to express what an absolute amazing experience I have just had in Rajasthan and to thank YOAS for the opportunity to practice yoga in such a rich and vibrant location. The castle itself was fantastic, the accommodation, the food and the practice space all surpassed my expectations. However the highlight of the retreat was the yoga. Rebecca smashed it! She taught a mixed ability group with such clarity and grace, keeping it interesting with the right balance between effort and ease. My practice has moved on another level. Thanks again, next time YOAS will be my first port of call.Pauline
We had a beautiful 10 days at Castle Bijaipur, with many exciting outings and memorable yoga. The participants are simply wonderful people, and our dear Rebecca a lovely leader. Many thanks to the staff at the Castle and everyone at YOAS.Lucia
One of the best holidays I've ever had. The yoga was amazing, the setting both at the castle and by the lake were breathtakingly beautiful, we ate delicious food, saw some fascinating sights, made new friends. Thank you YOAS for another great trip.Jennifer
