About Castle Bijaipur

Standing high on a plateau of the great Vindhychal ranges is the 16th century Castle Bijaipur. Having been occupied by kings and queens for centuries, the present Maharaja (a great lover of yoga) has opened the doors of his exquisite castle to the public. The hospitality is so wonderful you are made to feel like a Maharaj yourself from the moment you arrive. Surrounded by villages and breathtaking views of the valley, this really is a very special place.

The daily programme

You will spend eight nights at the Castle and two nights in luxurious tents. The Castle rooms are all clean, well maintained and have both the luxury of modern comforts and the elegance of the past. You will camp (in style) by the lotus lake, amidst the stillness and beauty of the Rajasthan countryside.

There will be two yoga classes each day on the shaded roof terrace of the Castle with stunning views. Each day will begin with a two hour morning yoga class. A strong and dynamic flowing asana practice gently opening the body and attuning the mind to the breath. The afternoon class will be more restorative and often include pranayama, meditation or yoga nidra. There will be one yoga free day and the classes will be suitable for all levels and yoga experience.

You may also spend a little time during the holiday, whilst staying by the lake, exploring the beauty of silence.

Things to do

Castle Bijaipur offers an action-packed holiday or a lazy pool-side holiday - the choice is yours.

There are jeep safaris to experience nearby wildlife and bird-life, treks to surrounding villages, temples and wonderful Marwari horses. You can explore the countryside on day trips to Chittorgarh Fort and the stunning city of Udaipur and there are opportunities for cooking lessons and bicycle rides.

There is no shortage of things to do in and around the Castle; even just a stroll into the surrounding village is a feast for the mind, body and soul...talking of which, massages and other treatments are also available at an extra cost.

Client Reviews

It really was the most stunning, tranquil and inspirational place for a yoga holiday...I left India feeling more inspired and energised about yoga than I have ever done. So thank you a million times over for organising the best holiday of my life.

A little note to express what an absolute amazing experience I have just had in Rajasthan and to thank YOAS for the opportunity to practice yoga in such a rich and vibrant location. The first thing that struck me was the great bunch of people I had the pleasure to share my stay with. The castle itself was fantastic, the accommodation, the food and the practice space all surpassed my expectations. However the highlight of the retreat was the yoga. Rebecca smashed it! She taught a mixed ability group with such clarity and grace, keeping it interesting with the right balance between effort and ease. My practice has moved on another level. Thanks again, next time YOAS will be my first port of call.

Rebecca is an outstanding teacher, who manages the range of experience and daily challenges of body changes with respect, warmth, understanding and flair. She is always able to offer appropriate alternatives. She’s very comfortable participating in the social parts of the retreat, without having to distance herself to maintain teacher authority. Her authority comes from exemplary and experienced practice.

I had an amazing time, it really was a magical ten days. The Castle is truly amazing with all the beautiful flowers and sweet smelling roses. Whilst in downward dog I was faced with bluest of skies and the rooftops of the Castle. The time spent at the lake was probably my favourite if I really have to choose one, practicing yoga at sunrise as the sun rose over the lake was a very special moment, as were the stars at night as we sat around the log fire.
Tracey
Rebecca is an excellent teacher, a great balance of power and encouragement to try harder with a spirit of play and no sense of competition. I would definitely return to one of her retreats. Castle Bijaipur is extraordinary; a living 'Best Marigold Hotel'. I’d go back in a heartbeat! The food was very good too and the in-house shop was a jumble of delights.
