About Poundon House

The Queen Anne style country house is stunning and spacious; set within six acres of landscaped gardens on the edge of the Oxfordshire-Buckinghamshire border. Poundon House offers a luxury escape in the peace and tranquility of the countryside, with the bonus of being within easy reach of London, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Birmingham, the Cotswolds and Bristol with fantastic transport links to the all of these places.

Once you arrive at Poundon House you will feel immediately at home. Whether it is settling down in front of a roaring open fire, taking a long bath in one of the unique bathrooms or going for a quiet walk in the apple orchard - for over a century Poundon has been the perfect place to escape the bustle of city life.

The daily programme

The first class will be on Friday evening, followed by a delicious dinner. Raquel will then lead you through two classes on the Saturday, a more dynamic morning class to align to body and breath and an afternoon practice to delve deeper into the postures and relax and restore.  Each morning will start with meditation or a guided walk. On Sunday there will be a morning practice before breakfast, another shorter class before lunch and the end of the retreat.

Each day after morning yoga and a healthy breakfast, there will be the opportunity to walk, have a massage or relax in one of the comfy lounges, or take a long bath. This is a very special place indeed!

Arrival time on Friday 16 October is from 4pm onwards. The first yoga session will be at 5pm. The weekend will finish on Sunday 18 October after lunch at 2pm.

Things to do

The surrounding countryside offers an abundance of walks and the grounds are a space to sit in nature and read a book or simply be. There will be massages on offer in the free time, or curl up on one of the big sofas to read or enjoy an afternoon nap.

Accommodation & food

The luxurious rooms are spacious, light and offer an extremely comfortable heaven to relax and rest in. The fireside sofas are deep and comfy and the views are an expanse of nature and space. Delicious organic food will be served throughout the retreat and all meals are vegetarian - delights to nourish body and soul.

For this retreat numbers have been limited to allow for space in all communal areas and single accommodation if required.

Client Reviews

This was truly the best yoga retreat I have EVER been on. All in all simply couldn't have been more amazing.
Tanya
I had a lovely weekend at Poundon House which was a really peaceful venue for the retreat. Our teacher, Raquel, has a terrific depth of knowledge and wisdom and a very playful sense of humour! The food, all prepared by the serene Nemia, was delicious. All in all a great success.
Michele
I had a really wonderful weekend at Poundon House - truly nourishing, wholly inspirational and a lot of fun too. It's a beautiful venue, there was delicious food for every meal, a really super group of like-minded spirits.
Pat
Raquel was a truly lovely yoga teacher. Her classes were varied and always accessible to all. The fun side of her personality shone through. Knowledgeable, kind and adaptable. She bought a sense of cohesiveness to the group, listening and responding to people's practice needs and wishes.
Sue
The weekend was wonderful, very nourishing and just what I needed – I didn’t know that was what I needed when I booked it. The venue was lovely and so was Elspeth and her wonderful catering.
Alex
I have already been recommending Yoga on a Shoestring to friends and will continue to do so. I loved the fact that is was real yoga, developing our breathing and taking our time to understand the poses and sequences. I would very much like to go back there again, especially with Raquel, she really is a diamond of a teacher.

 Oxfordshire - YOAS yoga retreat

Stretched and strong on a YOAS weekend at Poundon House

The Global Retreat Company, April 2018

Jane Dunford reviews a YOAS weekend at a gorgeous manor house in the Oxfordshire countryside and finds all she needs to return to her life calm, clear and strong.

“Close your eyes and I’ll tell you when to open them,” says my taxi driver. A slightly strange request as we approach Poundon House – a short ride from North Bicester station in Oxfordshire – but the big reveal makes sense. There at the end of a long drive bordered by snowdrops and bare-branched lime trees stands a striking country pile, the Oxford sandstone glowing gold in the late afternoon sun.

I’m here for a weekend with YOAS Yoga Retreats (who run a full programme around the UK and abroad), led by south London yoga teacher Tania Brown.
