May bank holiday yoga retreat in the Cotswolds, UK

22 - 25 May 2020

Cost from £315

Teacher Dory Walker

Holycombe is a serene haven of beauty and tranquility. It is warm and welcoming with a purpose built space for yoga and beautiful gardens to relax in, you cannot help but fall in love with this very special place in the Cotswolds.

Set in a verdant wooded valley on the edge of the Cotswold village of Whichford, Holycombe is built on the grounds of a Norman castle, land which is believed to have been a sacred site many years before Roman occupation. Geomancers and dowsers claim that six ley-lines converge on the stone circle at the top field.

About Holycombe

A natural stream rises from a holy well in the nearby wood and passes through the grounds and down a waterfall. The sound of running water adds to the sense of peace and tranquility in the grounds whilst a coppice provides a shady outdoor space and a campfire area a place for evening song and chats. A beautiful garden room is used for eating in doors whilst a rose-scented terrace is available for eating al-fresco. Holycombe is the perfect venue for that peaceful break and escape from our all too often busy and stressful lives.

The daily programme

Nourishing, traditional hatha yoga sessions will naturally open the heart and nurture you to a space of surrender and stillness. A typical class will include asana (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), hands-on adjustments, guided relaxation, chanting and a taste of philosophy. Typically each class will last for two hours.

The days will begin with silent meditation and a little mantra chanting. This will be followed by the morning yoga class and then a breakfast. There will be free time during the day for massage treatments, nature walks and relaxing, hanging out in the gardens, reading or maybe taking a gentle stroll to enjoy the nearby bluebell woods. We will join together again later for the afternoon yoga practice.

In the evenings there will be other activities that may include meditation, inspiring cinema and chanting.

Arrival time on Friday 22 May is from 4pm onwards. We will have our first yoga session together at 6pm. We will finish on Monday 25 May after brunch.

Things to do

You will probably not want to do much when you get to Holycombe except relax, soak in its surrounding beauty and go on walks in the nearby bluebell woods. Across a nearby meadow are the ancient Whichford woods with many rare species of trees and plants, an abundance of wood anemones, primroses and bluebells. Wildlife abounds: everything from muntjac deer to polecats and kingfishers. Walks are abundant and the grounds themselves peaceful and serenely beautiful.

A short weekend was simply not enough. I arrived feeling in need of re-connection, I left feeling re-balanced. The wonderful meals, attentive teacher, room to myself, sense of companionship, wonderful country surroundings was just what I needed. Great value for money, this weekend should be offered for longer...I would do this again!
Thank you so much for a wonderful yoga weekend! Dory's yoga teaching was everything I could have hoped for - beautifully balanced practices with new awareness for me to take home, all taught with kindness and fun! I really respected your knowledge and practice as well as your good-vibe teaching.
A wonderful weekend. I really can’t say anything critical at all - the place was unique and cosy, the food was really impressive, the people were all friendly, the yoga was brilliant, the other activities were varied and fun (film, walks around house, chanting, time on ones own or chatting with new friends).
Absolutely loved my Yoga days with Dory Walker. What an inspiration! She is professional, warm and motivating. Her style of Yoga with Pranayama and Nidra suited me perfectly.
Just to send heartfelt gratitude once again for the wonderful retreat at the weekend. Dory, you are so inspiring and words just can’t do justice to the impact the whole weekend, with you at its helm, has had on me. I feel like I’m back on track now and have been reminded of, and grounded in, who I am and the direction I want my life to take.
I am still feeling the positive effects from my break. The location was beautiful, the food fantastic, the people lovely and Dory, by far, is the best teacher I have had in 18 years.
