Since 2003 we have travelled the world to find unique and wonderful venues and along the way have met the most inspiring yoga teachers. This combination of fantastic locations and brilliant teachers make for the very best yoga holidays and retreats. We love what we do and hope you enjoy the retreats and holidays to form fantastic memories but most importantly to recharge, explore and bring forth the best of YOU.
Wendy Bryan, Dory Walker and Jan King are the core team behind Yoga on a Shoestring working closely with a select group of teachers, much loved venues and experienced chefs and therapists.
Wendy has been running YOAS day to day since 2010 and has a love for yoga, travel and adventure. She offers friendly guidance and support to ensure all experience the joy and happiness that a wonderful yoga break can bring. When she’s not planning escapes for others, Wendy can be found on her yoga mat, spending time with her beautiful family, or off around the world on new adventures.
Dory has a wealth of experience teaching and running retreats and an extensive yoga background. She brings this breadth of experience and knowledge to YOAS offering yogic guidance and support in an ever growing and changing world. Dory is passionate about the full spectrum of yoga, well-being in general and all that supports radiance, freedom and happiness.
Jan runs a beautiful retreat centre in Italy and enthuses all with her energy and hands on experience of running yoga retreats. She plays the piano, speaks Italian and is always first in line for trying something new. Her enthusiasm is infectious and her energy boundless.
What is special about Yoga on a Shoestring?
The core ethos of the company remains and, wherever possible, we keep the costs down or offer a more affordable option for example in a mini dorm or camping. However, there is now a demand for luxury and we have found some simply stunning luxury destinations over the years. So as we have grown so have our clientele and we now offer a broader range with something for all budgets, from shoestring to luxury holidays and retreats.
How we work
What is the structure of a yoga holiday - and how is it different from a retreat?
Weekend retreats also offer 2 yoga classes a day but often will also include other optional elements such as meditation, chanting, inspirational cinema, guided walks and workshops.
Retreats are usually 2 or 3 nights and our holidays are 5, 7 or 10 nights.
Do you need to be an experienced yogi?
All are welcome and our teachers are experienced in offering something for everyone. A more challenging practice for experienced yogis and guidance for those who are newer to the practice.
If you have the chance though, it’s always a good idea to try a yoga class or two before you come away.
What is the style of yoga?
What size are the groups?
Are there other activities on offer beside yoga?
Can you find a sharer for me?
Is it OK to come alone?
Are non-yoga partners welcome?
Are all meals included?
Will the food be vegetarian?

What to bring
Transfers and travel to holidays and retreats
For all foreign yoga holidays we will arrange airport transfers and group people together wherever possible. Transfers are usually at an additional cost and vary from holiday to holiday.
What time should I arrive - and what time does a retreat or holiday end?
For two and three night UK retreats arrival is usually at 3pm on the first day with the first yoga class at approximately 5pm and departure is 2pm on the last day of a 2 night retreat after lunch or 12 pm after a 3 night retreat. Each retreat varies slightly so please check the relevant retreat page.

Terms and Conditions
These are our general terms & conditions for Yoga on a Shoestring (YOAS) holidays.
As a company we are required by law to have certain insurance cover in place. In order to provide clients with total peace of mind during their holiday all passengers bookings/monies are fully protected from cancellation or curtailment of your travel arrangements, due to insolvency. Your booking is insured by IPP Ltd and its panel of insurers. This insurance is only valid for passengers who book and pay directly with/to Yoga on a Shoestring. This Insurance has been arranged by International Passenger Protection Limited and underwritten by Insurers who are members of the Association of British Insurers & Lloyds Syndicates.
Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that you are in possession of private travel insurance with protection for the full duration of the holiday in respect of medical expenses, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment, with adequate cover.
Our Cancellation Policy
Cancellation by a consumer. YOAS is entitled to keep a reasonable amount, the deposit payment, to cover any expenses incurred as a result of your cancellation. The deposit can be transferred to another YOAS holiday within one year of the original holiday date if notification is given more than 6 weeks beforehand.
Transfer by a consumer. If any person on a package holiday is prevented from travelling, YOAS will agree to that person’s booking being transferred to another person who satisfies all the conditions applicable to the package, subject to both persons accepting joint and several liability for full payment of the package price and YOAS’ reasonable charge for confirming the transfer and any additional costs arising from the transfer. YOAS must be given reasonable notice of the transfer request, which is considered to be at least 6 weeks prior to the outward departure date.
The deposit (50% of the full cost) is non-refundable. If you cancel 6 weeks before arrival - we will refund 50% of total cost. If you cancel less than 6 weeks before arrival - we will charge 100% of total cost. This does not affect your legal right to transfer your booking to another person in certain circumstances.
Cancellation by YOAS. In the unlikely event that YOAS has to cancel your holiday for no fault of your own, we will notify you as quickly as possible and we will compensate you for any loss reasonably incurred by you as a result of our cancellation. The consumer is entitled to take an equivalent or superior substitute holiday (if we are able to offer you one) or to take a holiday of a lower price (if we are able to offer you one). We will always refund the difference in price if the replacement holiday is of a lower standard and price.
The consumer is entitled to compensation by YOAS except:
a. When the number of persons is less than the required minimum of 3, providing you are notified of this before the contract is concluded and the consumer is informed of the cancellation 6 weeks beforehand.
b. When the holiday is cancelled due to unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond the control of YOAS.
If for any reason at all, a course leader/teacher becomes unavailable we shall do our utmost to replace them with a leader of similar qualities and standards. Wherever possible you will be advised in advance of any alterations. Similarly, the alteration of some amenities or courses might take place due to maintenance work, mechanical faults, weather conditions, sickness or other situations outside our control. If the change of teacher or amenities is not to your satisfaction we will make alternative arrangements at no extra cost to you or if these are not accepted by you, you are able to withdraw from the contract and we will make arrangements for return back to point of departure and, where appropriate, compensate you.
Flight Confirmation and Insurance
It is your responsibility to confirm your flight times with your airline before your outward and return journey.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you are in possession of private travel insurance with protection for the full duration of the holiday in respect of medical expenses, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment, with adequate cover.
Exclusions of Liability
- Cancellations, delays or changes caused by war, threat of war, terrorist actions or threats, closure of airports, civil strife, industrial action, natural disaster, technical problems to transport, staff cancellations or other events beyond our control.
- Participants' medical or psychiatric/emotional conditions which may become apparent through practising yoga daily on a YOAS holiday.
- Loss of, or damage to, personal property of participants.
If you have any complaints about the venue during the holiday please liaise with the appointed YOAS representative and go to the venue direct in the first instance. Alternatively, telephone or email Yoga on a Shoestring during the period of your holiday, or at any time reasonably practicable, and we will do our best to help resolve any problems.

How YOAS use your contact information
When booking you will be asked to complete a form. In doing so you are agreeing to your name, email and telephone number being used by YOAS to inform you of details of the retreat or holiday you have booked.
Yoga on a Shoestring Mailing List
When you make a booking with YOAS you will be invited to opt-in to join our Mailing List by ticking a box. Subscription preferences may be changed by you at any time.
Yoga on a Shoestring competitions
When you enter into a competition organised by YOAS we will ask you to submit your name and email address for purposes of entering you into our competition prize draw. We will ask you at the time of entry to opt-in to join our Mailing List. You will have the option to accept or decline this request and declining it will not affect your chances of winning a prize.
We will provide terms and conditions of the competition on our website for the duration of the competition. YOAS competitions are always administered by YOAS and no third party is involved.
